FAQ

How much does it cost to adopt an animal in Macon County?

Adoption fees vary by organization and animal. Ask the shelter about the current fee, included vaccinations, spay or neuter status, and identification.

What should I bring when adopting a shelter animal?

Bring a government-issued ID and proof of address if requested. A leash or secure carrier is also useful for transporting the animal safely.

What should I do with an injured or stray animal?

Contact Macon County Animal Services for local intake instructions. For life-threatening injuries, contact an emergency veterinarian immediately rather than waiting for routine shelter assistance.

How long does animal adoption usually take?

The timeline depends on the animal's medical evaluation, behavior assessment, and any required holding period. Ask the shelter whether the animal is cleared for adoption before visiting.
