What the roster tells you
In North Carolina a general contractor license is required for any building project costing $40,000 or more (G.S. 87-1). The NCLBGC issues it to a company or person; a qualifier who passed the Board's exam stands behind each license. Each license carries one or more classifications (Building, Residential, Highway, Public Utilities, and specialty trades such as Roofing or Grading & Excavating) and a limitation: Limited (projects up to $500,000), Intermediate (up to $1,000,000) or Unlimited. Licenses expire every December 31 and must be renewed each year.
Board actions shown here are transcribed from the Board's quarterly disciplinary case summaries (revocations, suspensions, stayed suspensions, probation, reprimands, voluntary surrenders). A license with no action listed has nothing published in the summaries we hold, which begin in late 2024; it is not a statement that the license has a clean history. Insurance and bonding are not on the roster: ask the contractor for a certificate of insurance.
